If
you've ever groaned, "Oh, my aching back!", you are not alone.
Back pain is one of the most common medical problems, affecting 8 out
of 10 people at some point during their lives. Back pain can range from
a dull, constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain. Acute back pain comes on
suddenly and usually lasts from a few days to a few weeks. Back pain is
called chronic if it lasts for more than three months.

Most back pain goes away on its own, though it may take awhile. Taking
over-the-counter pain relievers and resting can help. However, staying
in bed for more than 1 or 2 days can make it worse. There are some mild
excercises you can do to instantly relieve back pain:
Try this on the floor or on your bed. Lay on your back, bend your knees
and bring them towards your chest as far as they will go. wrap your arms
around your legs to hold them in place. Stay this way until you are completely
relaxed. While in this position, slowly sway from right to left and rock
forwards and backwards. Doing this will relax the muscles in your back
and relieve alot of pain.
In standing position, place each hand on each thigh and slowy bend forward,
holding onto your legs for support. As you bend lower, move your hands
downward while gripping your legs for support. Go as low as you can and
remain for 2 minutes. Slowly stand up, allow your hands to crawl up your
legs for support as you stand. Do this as often as needed and you will
notice that you are able to sit longer, stand longer, and move around
more freely.
If your back pain is severe or doesn't improve after three days, you
should call your health care provider. You should also get medical attention
if you have back pain following an injury.
